Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

3D Printing Questions

Q. How can I print my models?

A. If you already have your own 3D printer you will need to convert your SHIVA model to the format required by the printer. The printer may come with software which can do this for you.

The 3D Builder app available for free on Microsoft Windows 10, allows you to save your model in various formats and can directly print to certain printers.

If you do not have a printer, there are many online printing services which you can email models to for printing using their printers (obviously for a fee).

Q. Which 3D printer would you recommend?

A. This is a difficult question to answer as it depends upon many factors, such as budget, available space etc.

The Ultimaker range of printers represent good value for money.

Q. Which 3D printing material should I use to make my model?

A. We would recommend using PLA material. This is relatively safe and environmentally friendly, You should still ensure adequate ventilation for the printer and not place it in a room where people are.

Q. How do I close or minimse the software (where is the cross etc.)?

A. There are deliberately no close, minimise or maximise buttons to prevent accidental exits out of the software. To exit the software, return to the main screen and press the ‘Esc’ key on the keyboard.

Q. How do I resize, maximise or reposition the application window?

A. The window can be docked using the Windows key + arrow keys, or by dragging the sides of the window. If you need to move the application to a second window, drag an edge to the window and then use Windows key + an arrow key.
